Atradius Collections Fees, Commission Rates and a Flat Fee Alternative for US Invoices
Atradius Collections publishes its US fee schedule, which most agencies never do. On a US customer it keeps 23% of claims up to $2,500 and 18.5% above that. DebtAgent chases the same invoice earlier, in your name, for a flat $49 a month.
Flat monthly fee. No commission. You stay the creditor and keep every dollar your customer pays.
Atradius Collections charges a success fee only when it recovers money. For a US creditor, its published schedule takes 23% of claims up to $2,500 and 18.5% of claims above $2,500 when the debtor is in the United States, and a $55 introduction fee plus 25.5% for debtors in Europe, Asia Pacific and most other regions, with 2 more points on invoices over 180 days past due (agora.atradiuscollections.com, read October 2026). That is cheaper than most published commercial rates, so Atradius is a sound place to send a claim that is genuinely stuck. It is an expensive way to collect an invoice that only needed three firm follow-ups. DebtAgent runs that follow-up in your own name on up to 50 active debtors for $49 a month and takes no share of what you recover.
Six differences that decide where an overdue invoice goes
Atradius Collections is a B2B collection agency that is part of the Atradius credit insurance group. DebtAgent is collections software you run yourself. They overlap on the first weeks of a late invoice and split cleanly after that.
A commission on each file versus one monthly price
Atradius earns 18.5% to 27.5% of whatever it recovers, depending on claim size, debtor country and age. That is fair for hard files and costly for easy ones. DebtAgent costs $49, $149 or $499 a month whether one invoice pays or forty do.
Whose name the customer sees
Placing a claim puts an agency letterhead in front of your customer, which is the point once they have stopped answering. DebtAgent sends every email from you, so a customer who is merely slow keeps buying from you after they pay.
When the clock starts
Atradius sends its first reminder within 48 hours of receiving a case and says an amicable case usually takes about 90 days. DebtAgent starts on day one past due, while the invoice is still young and recovery odds are highest.
Reach outside the United States
This is where Atradius clearly wins. It runs collections through its own group and partners across most of the world, applies local statutory interest and handles local language letters and calls. DebtAgent writes in USD, EUR, GBP, CAD and AUD, but it does not have collectors in other countries.
Legal action
Atradius can send a case to legal review after you pay a retainer, with costs set by the debtor's country and claim size. DebtAgent does not sue, does not obtain judgments and does not hand files to attorneys. If a claim needs court, that is an agency or a lawyer, not us.
What happens when the customer pays you directly
Atradius' FAQ says you still owe its collection fee if the debtor pays shortly after you place the case. With DebtAgent you mark the invoice paid, the sequence stops, and nothing else is owed.
How to use Atradius Collections and DebtAgent together in one month
Most finance teams do not need to pick one. The cheap move is to let software clear the easy invoices and place only the files that need an agency.
-
Step 1
Week 1. split the aging report
Export accounts receivable aging and sort past due balances into under 60 days, 60 to 120 days, and silent or over 120 days. Flag every customer outside the US.
-
Step 2
Week 1. start the early bucket
Load the under 120 day invoices into DebtAgent by CSV export or by hand, approve the friendly, firm and final wording once, and let it send on schedule.
-
Step 3
Week 2. price the stuck files
Run the silent and foreign claims through the Atradius online quote. Note the region, the commission band and whether the 180 day surcharge applies before you place anything.
-
Step 4
Week 4. place only what is still unpaid
Mark the invoices that paid during the sequence. Place what is left with Atradius or another agency, with a clean dated record of every reminder already sent.
Atradius Collections vs DebtAgent fees and features compared
Atradius figures come from its US fee schedule on the Agora quote page, its US FAQ and how it works pages, and atradiuscollections.com/us, all read October 2026. Where Atradius does not publish a number, the table says so.
| Feature | DebtAgent | Atradius Collections |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | $49, $149 or $499 a month, flat | Success fee on amounts collected, no win no fee |
| US debtor, claim up to $2,500 | Included in the plan | 23% commission, no file fee |
| US debtor, claim over $2,500 | Included in the plan | 18.5% commission, no file fee |
| Debtor in Europe, Asia Pacific or rest of world | Included, emails in EUR, GBP, CAD or AUD | $55 introduction fee plus 25.5% |
| Invoices over 180 days past due | No surcharge | Extra 2% commission |
| Customer pays you directly after placement | Mark paid, nothing owed | Collection fee still owed, per its FAQ |
| Withdrawing a file | Stop the sequence any time | Withdrawal fee may apply |
| Statutory interest and costs on export cases | Not claimed for you | Retained by Atradius on export cases |
| Legal action | Not offered | After a retainer, costs by country |
| Collectors in other countries | No | Yes, through the Atradius group and partners |
| Who the customer hears from | You, in your name | Atradius Collections |
| Smallest claim worth placing | Any amount | Below EUR 250 not cost effective, per its FAQ |
Atradius does not state on the pages we read whether the US $2,500 band applies to the whole claim or only to the amount above $2,500. The worked examples below read it as the whole claim. Confirm it on your own offer page before you place.
How much does Atradius Collections charge?
Atradius Collections charges a success fee on what it collects, and nothing if it collects nothing. For a creditor quoting from the US site, the schedule on its online quote page is short enough to print in full.
- Debtor in the United States. No introduction fee. 23% on claims up to $2,500 and 18.5% on claims over $2,500.
- Americas I group. Priced like a US file, no introduction fee, 23% and 18.5%.
- Europe I and II, Americas II, Asia Pacific I and II, rest of world. A $55 introduction fee per file plus 25.5%, whatever the amount.
- Aged invoices. An extra 2% on invoices more than 180 days overdue, charged on successful collection.
All amounts are in US dollars and exclude VAT. Two terms matter as much as the percentage. If the customer pays you directly shortly after you place the case, Atradius' FAQ says you still owe the fee. And if you withdraw a case against its recommendation, a withdrawal fee may apply. Neither amount is published, so ask for both in writing.
What Atradius Collections costs on real invoices
Here is the schedule worked on claim sizes a US distributor or manufacturer actually places. The DebtAgent column assumes the invoice sits inside a Starter plan that is already running for other customers.
| Claim | Atradius fee | You keep | DebtAgent |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,800, US customer, 75 days late | $414 (23%) | $1,386 | $0 extra on a $49 plan |
| $6,000, US customer, 75 days late | $1,110 (18.5%) | $4,890 | $0 extra on a $49 plan |
| $6,000, US customer, 200 days late | $1,230 (20.5%) | $4,770 | Place it, it needs an agency |
| $6,000, customer in Germany, 75 days late | $1,585 ($55 + 25.5%) | $4,415 | $0 extra, sequence in EUR |
| $15,000, US customer, 75 days late | $2,775 (18.5%) | $12,225 | $0 extra on a $49 plan |
Two honest readings follow. First, on a domestic claim Atradius is cheap by agency standards. The Kaplan Group rate card takes 25% of a $6,000 claim, which is $1,500, and STA International's published rates take $1,450 on the same claim. Atradius takes $1,110. If a file truly needs an agency, that is a good price.
Second, every one of those fees is paid on an invoice that may never have needed an agency at all. A 75 day invoice from a customer who still answers email usually pays after a clear, firm sequence that names the amount, the due date and the next step. Paying $1,110 to recover it is a choice, not a necessity. That is the job DebtAgent does for a flat fee, and it is why the contingency collection agency math changes once the early invoices are cleared first.
Is Atradius Collections legitimate?
Yes. Atradius Collections is the collections arm of Atradius, the trade credit insurance group headquartered in Amsterdam, and its US office is in Downers Grove, Illinois. It works only on business to business debt, says it serves more than 15,000 businesses, and sells through its own sales team, through partners and through an online quote portal called Agora. It also owns Credit-IQ, an accounts receivable software product.
Because the work is B2B, a customer who receives an Atradius letter is a company, not a consumer, and the FDCPA consumer rules do not govern the claim. What does govern it is the contract you sign with Atradius: the fee schedule, the direct payment clause, the withdrawal fee and who keeps statutory interest. Read those four lines before the percentage.
Do you need Atradius credit insurance to use Atradius Collections?
No policy is required on the pages we read. The US site and the Agora portal quote and accept claims directly from businesses, and the fee schedule above is the uninsured price. Credit insurance customers usually reach collections through their policy, where the insurer has its own interest in the recovery and terms can differ, so an insured company should check its policy wording before placing a claim separately.
If you are weighing credit insurance against collections, they solve different problems. Insurance pays you when a covered customer becomes insolvent or defaults past a waiting period. Collections, whether through Atradius or software, works on customers who can pay and have not. Most late B2B invoices are the second kind.
How long does Atradius Collections take to collect a debt?
Atradius says it sends the first reminder within 48 hours of receiving a case, that an amicable collection case usually takes about 90 days, and that recovered funds reach you roughly 14 days after it collects them. Legal action, where you choose it, adds the local court timeline on top and needs a retainer first.
Compare that with what the first 90 days of a late invoice look like inside your own business. If a customer is at 45 days and nobody has written to them since the due date, a firm sequence from you will usually move it faster than a third party can, because the relationship is still yours. Place the file with Atradius when that sequence has run and the customer has gone quiet, or when the debtor is abroad and needs a local collector.
What is the best Atradius Collections alternative for a US business?
It depends on which invoices you are trying to move. For domestic invoices under about 120 days, where the customer still answers, the best alternative is to stop placing them at all. DebtAgent drafts a friendly, firm and final email sequence in your name and your tone, you approve it once, and it sends on schedule until you mark the invoice paid. Starter is $49 a month for 50 active debtors, Plus is $149 for 250, Pro is $499 unlimited, with no commission on anything.
For claims that are silent, disputed, large or abroad, the alternative to Atradius is another agency, and the honest shortlist is in our international debt collection agencies roundup and the international debt collection guide. If you are chasing a British customer specifically, the UK debt collection agency fees for US companies article works through UK agency rates and the Late Payment Act. For domestic agencies on contingency, compare against the ABC-Amega alternative page, which covers an agency that publishes no rates at all.
Atradius Collections questions
How much does Atradius Collections charge?
For a US creditor, Atradius' published schedule takes 23% of claims up to $2,500 and 18.5% of claims over $2,500 when the debtor is in the US, and a $55 introduction fee plus 25.5% for debtors in Europe, Asia Pacific and most other regions. Invoices over 180 days late carry an extra 2%. You pay nothing if it collects nothing.
Is Atradius Collections a real company or a scam?
It is a real B2B collection agency. Atradius Collections belongs to the Atradius trade credit insurance group, has a US office in Downers Grove, Illinois, and works only on business debts. If you received a letter from it, a business you owe has placed an invoice with it, and you can verify the claim with that supplier directly.
What is the minimum debt Atradius Collections will take?
Atradius does not publish a hard minimum, but its FAQ says claims below EUR 250 are not cost effective for the client or for Atradius. In practice the $55 introduction fee on foreign files makes small export claims expensive, so small invoices are better chased directly first.
Do I still pay Atradius if my customer pays me directly?
Usually yes. Atradius' FAQ says that if the debtor pays shortly after you place the case, you are still obligated to pay its collection fees. That is standard across agencies and it is the main reason to run your own follow up before placing an invoice, not after.
Does Atradius Collections charge more for old invoices?
Yes. Its US schedule adds 2 percentage points to the standard commission on invoices more than 180 days overdue, charged when it collects. A $6,000 US claim moves from $1,110 to $1,230 in fees once it passes 180 days.
Can DebtAgent replace Atradius Collections?
For invoices where the customer still answers, yes, and for less. DebtAgent sends a friendly, firm and final email sequence in your name for a flat $49 to $499 a month. It does not sue, has no collectors abroad and does not claim statutory interest for you, so keep an agency such as Atradius for silent, disputed and foreign claims.
You are handing us your customers' names. Here is what happens to them.
Collections data is unusually sensitive, so we treat it that way: TLS in transit, encrypted storage, a full compliance audit log, and debtor records that are never used to train public models. Card details go to our payment processor and never touch us. Account deletion means delete, everywhere. We are also honest about where we are not yet: no SOC 2 report yet, no SSO yet, no invented customer logos or testimonials either.
